He was born in Salonta, Bihor County, in 1905. From 1936, he studied at the Free School of Painting in Baia Mare under the guidance of András Mikola, János Krizsán, and Sándor Ziffer.
He participated in group exhibitions at the Painters’ Colony from the late 1930s. He had presences on the stands of several galleries in the country and abroad in group and solo exhibitions.
The painting offers us a distant perspective of an impressionistic landscape from Baia Mare, following the suggestion of brush strokes and forms made only from spots in their majority. The element glorified in this painting is the representation of monumental clouds, covering a third of the painting’s surface, thus modifying the compositional rules of Baia Mare.
Gyimessy-Kovács Gábor remarkably captures the distinctive elements of the Baia Mare landscape, from historical architecture to the beauty of nature and its surroundings.
