Born in the town of Cavnic, Krizsán János was one of the leading representatives of the second wave of traditionalist painters of the Baia Mare School of Painting, active in Baia Mare since 1902 as a student of István Réti and Béla Iványi Grünwald. His artistic interest focused on representing the landscape around the city, painting in the spirit defined by his predecessors as the core of the Baia Mare School of Painting.
This painting captures a tranquil and contemplative ambiance of Baia Mare and its natural surroundings from the perspective of the Youth Field. Also from this location, the artist’s wife, Csikos Antonia, delighted us with a painting that is part of this series of enamel works on metal.
Thus, we can observe how the two artists painted the same urban subject in different artistic and aesthetic interpretations. In Krizán János’s work, the warm and luminous tones of the landscape delight the viewer, inviting us to visually explore the other works in the series of urban panels.
