Born in the town of Cavnic, Krizsán János was one of the prominent representatives of the second wave of traditionalist painters of the Baia Mare School of Painting, active in Baia Mare since 1902 as a student of István Réti and Béla Iványi Grünwald. His artistic interest focused on representing the landscape surrounding the city, painting in the spirit that his predecessors defined as the core of the Baia Mare School of Painting.
The landscape, built on a restricted chromatic palette composed of colored grays, captures a tranquil and contemplative ambiance of Baia Mare and its natural surroundings. The plastic subject is ultimately delineated on a juxtaposition between dynamic and static elements.
