Szántó András

1946 – present

SZANTO Andreas, born in Satu Mare in 1946, graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca in 1970, under the guidance of Professor László Feszt. He has held numerous personal exhibitions in Baia Mare, Budapest, Gyula, and abroad, including Berlin and Dortmund. His painting is a form of Eastern European hyperrealism, distinguished from the American version by its profound emotional depth, fidelity to tradition, and gentle, lyrical use of colors. His works are found in private collections and museums both in Romania and abroad.

The composition, created using the technique of metal engraving in black and white, depicts a part of the Historic Center of Baia Mare. Despite the renovations and modifications made over time, the building represented in the artist Szanto’s engraving has managed to preserve many of its original architectural features, contributing to the maintenance of the historical atmosphere of the area. It is part of a group of buildings that define the old center of Baia Mare and reflect the traditions and history of the city.
