Gheorghe Chivu

1912-1986

Gheorghe Chivu (1912–1986) was a Romanian poet and painter. He studied at the Theological Seminary and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, where he was a student of the painter Camil Ressu. He was associated with the literary circle “Sburătorul” and made his poetry debut in the magazine Luceafărul in 1938. He published several volumes of poetry, including Zumbe, Apocrife, and Cantoria, and worked as an art teacher in several cities across Romania. He was a member of the Writers’ Union of Romania and a recipient of the Young Writers’ Award (1946).
